Self-checkout is important

Bill payment at a self-checkout POS station is simple. Consumers simply scan a barcoded bill at checkout, like any other barcoded item. Because of PayScan’s patented solution, the POS automatically detects the scan as a bill payment, and then uses the payment network to decode and process the bill. The consumer does not need to enter any account numbers or select a biller; this is all determined automatically. The consumer simply pays the desired amount, and has the option of adding additional services such as expedited payment.
Barcoded bill payment works well as an in-lane service, using normal retail cashiers, because each payment transaction is simple and only takes seconds. Barcoded bill payment can be even faster in a self-service location – offering all the advantages but none of the drawbacks of a kiosk.
Bill payment is a natural fit for self-checkout POS locations. There is simply no reason to tie up customer service counters, financial service staff, or other store employees with payment transactions – transactions that consumers would often prefer to complete at self-service locations, where they can feel more comfortable and private in dealing with their personal bills.
Self-service bill payment can draw more consumers to the self-checkout lanes, a key goal for many retailers. This is truly a win-win solution, giving consumers more flexibility and control while reducing retailer costs.
